Weekend Activities – June 18th & 19th

I hope that this column finds you in good spirits!

The weekend ahead is a busy one now that we’ve had couple of weeks of warm weather and the growing season is in full swing.

Area Farmers’ Markets are open for business with plenty of local wares to offer, and don’t forget that Father’s Day is this Sunday.

If you don’t have any plans yet, or you are itching to get out and about – be sure to check out one of the following activities that are happening on the Front Range. If you do, be sure to tell them that Amy with Farming Fort Collins sent you!

Saturday, June 18th

13th Annual Loveland Garden Tour & Art Show

Time: 8:00am to 3:00pm

Activities

Enjoy strolling through six lakeside gardens located in the Seven Lakes area of Northeast Loveland that practice sustainable gardening and conservation techniques, including: low-water landscapes, combinations of organic vegetable and flower beds and wildlife habitats. Additionally, the tour features the sale of “Art for the Garden” by local artists whose work complements the various landscapes, with a number of the artists incorporating reused or salvaged materials into their pieces.

Funds raised from this annual garden tour benefit the Loveland Youth Gardeners – a non-profit dedicated to cultivating skills and promoting service and stewardship in young people through sustainable gardening and healthy living practices.

Cost: $15, Rain or Shine – No Refunds.  Tickets can be purchased here, or at the first garden – located at 2276 Nysa Ct. (Cash or check only; NO credit/debit cards accepted for tickets on the day of the tour)

Support Project Self-Sufficiency Saturday with Fort Collins Nursery

When you shop at Fort Collins Nursery on Saturday, June 18th and they will donate a portion of their proceeds to Project Self-Sufficiency to aid in their mission of helping single parents realize their dreams for financial independence while creating an improved quality of life for parents and their children.

 

Flowers and Their Insect Partners – Registration Required by 6/18

Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Location: Soapstone Prairie Natural Area – 22998 Rawhide Flats Road, Fort Collins CO 80526 – Meet in the North Parking Lot.

Explore Soapstone on this guided tour while learning about the flowers of summer on the high prairie ecosystem and the insects they entice to do their bidding. Bring water, lunch, and closed-toe shoes. 3 miles; moderate. Free, registration required at naturetracker.fcgov.com

Sunday, June 19th

19th annual Father’s Day 5k – Registration Required

Time: Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.
Races begin at 8:00 a.m.
Location: Mountain Avenue, Downtown Fort Collins

The Father’s Day 5k is a family event complete with a day of fun runs, walks, a wheelchair race, and an after party celebration hosted in the newly renovated Old Town Square. Presented in partnership by the City of Fort Collins Recreation Department, UC Health, and Columbine Health Systems, proceeds support the Reduced Fee Program and the Adaptive Recreation Opportunities (ARO) program within the City of Fort Collins Recreation Department.

Cost: $3 per child, class is not discountable, Drop-in; Registration is not required

This program helps your child develop school readiness skills of early language comprehension and fine motor skills while encouraging creativity, curiosity, and exploration of the natural world. Includes story time and an educational, hands-on activity.
