Sponsored Post: NoCo Urban Homestead Tour

Have you ever wondered how they do it all? Go to work, raise a family, keep house, and then at the end of the day, homestead?

Me too. I’ve learned about how to work with beehives and chickens, installed the bat house, digested the City’s rules, and committed to memory what books and seminars could share – but I’ve not made the leap to actually putting into practice those ideas. I’ll admit it, I’m scared as hell about investing time, energy, and money into what could be the mother of all mistakes. That, and I don’t know where I’d find the time to cross one more thing off of my to-do list.

NoCo Homestead Tour 2016

That’s one of the reasons why the 3rd annual NoCo Urban Homestead Tour, taking place July 30th, is a great opportunity for anyone who is curious about or are interested in any of the aspects of homesteading be it gardening, raising chickens, working a hive, or doing it all.

Take advantage of this rare opportunity to see and talk with actual homeowners who DID take the leap, who bucked the fear, and put into practice what remains only an idea for so many. An added bonus is that all proceeds from this event benefit the Gardens on Spring Creek & Loveland Youth Gardeners – so that this regained knowledge is passed down to the newest generations and not lost with the sands of time.

Split evenly between Fort Collins and Loveland this self-guided tour features individual and unique homesteads where you can spend as much time as you’d like exploring features such as a passive solar greenhouse, a working root cellar, a working flock of chickens and runner ducks, and if you are among the beer connoisseurs in our corner of the world, a 15’ x 40’ hop trellis. All of this takes place in everyday family homes & yards, with busy schedules and all of same daily challenges that we all experience.

Homestead Tour 2016

If you’ve attended in years past, rest assured – this year’s lineup is new and different – and you are bound to pick up a few hints and tricks along the way, or even be able to share your experiences with novices like me along the way.

So join in the merriment and dare yourself to learn about how to integrate homesteading activities into your daily life while also making a difference for the youths in our community who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn these and other self-sustainable life skills.

Hope to see you there, and when you go, let them know that you heard about it from Amy with Farming Fort Collins. 🙂

Until next time, may your knees be green and your spirits light.

Amy
